Arrowhead General Insurance Agency, Inc.

Arrowhead General Insurance Agency, Inc., proudly looks back at 2006 as an extremely successful year, highlighted by continued top and bottom line growth with written premium in excess of $935 million; a solid group of financially stable insurance carriers supporting their diversified specialty book of business; and recapitalizing and repositioning the company with two private equity partners. The company is determined to remain focused in 2007 on expanding into additional states with current products while taking advantage of cross-selling opportunities to its nationwide base of 8,800 independent producers. And Arrowhead does this while maintaining its technology driven, ease-of-business mantra.

Chris Walker, president at Arrowhead, said he is “…happy with the way we’ve been progressing. Our sustained growth and profitability are the result of our talented group of professionals recognizing areas of market dislocation, and developing products that are attractive to carriers, producers and insureds. Through our speed and execution, we have been able to gain scale and stature within the insurance industry.”

Another key advantage setting Arrowhead apart in the industry is its secure online quoting portal, Arrowhead Exchange. Arrowhead’s producers log in to quote, bind and submit new business while servicing their existing policies. Walker notes that the site provides producers with online tools for an efficient workflow to help streamline their business tasks. “We’re currently working on a renovation of the site’s architecture to ensure our producers’ time is optimized,” Walker said.

Currently licensed on an admitted basis in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, Arrowhead continues to grow steadily by adding new products on an annual basis, including new workers compensation programs. And a newly acquired motorcycle book of business in Pennsylvania and New York has been added to its existing motorcycle program in western states.

Another major area of business growth has been Arrowhead’s commercial earthquake program. Workers compensation business is also an important part of the Arrowhead family, as well as its core programs such as personal lines, architects and engineers liability, commercial auto, and its large specialty contractors book.

Within its continually expanding book of business, Arrowhead continues to maintain its stable written premium business mix of 37% commercial, 27% personal and 36% workers compensation. It projects 2007 to differ slightly in those results with 43% commercial, 23% personal and 34% workers compensation.

Headquartered in downtown San Diego with seven offices throughout California and elsewhere in the U.S., Arrowhead employs 500 dedicated people and sets itself apart from other general agencies with its supporting infrastructure. From finance to information systems and operations, Arrowhead’s capabilities are extensive in keeping the business flow running smoothly both internally and for its business partners.

Many of Arrowhead’s business contacts were made initially through the company’s membership in the Target Markets Program Administrators Association (TMPAA). Walker cites the TMPAA as a strong working organization. “At its national meetings, the Association provides an excellent opportunity to talk about real business. Networking is clearly one of the association’s strong points. We place great value in our Target Markets membership.

“Every year we gain important new insights to the program business through Target Markets,” Walker said. “We’re looking forward to how it can continue to help us maintain our growth initiatives.” →
