The Indiana Young Agents Committee was one of many state associations honored with national awards of excellence at IIAA's 25th Annual Young Agents Leadership Conference that was held October 28-30, 2000. In addition to claiming the top honors, the Indiana young agents also took home the Outstanding State Committee Project Award (tying with the Young Agents Committee of the Michigan Association of Insurance Agents) and the Outstanding Communications Award.

The Indiana young agents were heralded for their outstanding efforts in the areas of political involvement, membership development and for their promotion of the independent agency system.

The Young Agents Committee of the Independent Insurance Agents of Georgia earned runner-up honors in recognition of their outstanding efforts to foster an understanding of the insurance industry. The Georgia young agents were also recipients of the Outstanding Membership Development Award.

Other winners were the Young Agents Committee of the Insurance Brokers and Agents of the West, recognized for Outstanding Young Agent Meeting Award, and the Young Agents Committee of Kentucky, awarded the Outstanding Political Involvement Award.

"The enthusiasm and positive attitudes these young agents possess leave me with a great sense of confidence and pride about the next generation of independent agents," said IIAA President William M. Houston, CPCU, ARM. "I have a tremendous amount of faith in this group's ability to maintain the independent agency system and help it prosper for years to come."

The awards ceremony kicked off the 25th Annual Young Agent Leadership Conference, which was held in conjunction with the IIAA's 105th Annual Convention and InfoExchange. The young agent portion of the convention brought together the agency system's young leaders for three days of educational training on customer retention, time management, media training and technology.

"These awards are a recognition of a job well done by an energetic group of young agents and leaders," said Houston. "We congratulate this year's honorees and issue the challenge to young agents around the country to share their successes with us at next year's conference." *
