Since the early 1980s, Bunker Hill has evolved into a premier underwriting
company, offering independent agents and their clients unique solutions to
their insurance needs. Representing only highly rated insurance companies,
including affiliated Great Midwest Insurance Company, Bunker Hill continues to
provide long-term stability through a solid combination of experienced,
knowledgeable underwriters and an experienced in-house claims team.
Based in Houston, Texas, with offices in Austin, Atlanta and Chicago, Bunker
Hill currently offers seven specialty programs on a multi state platform:
• Marinas and boat dealers
• AllSecure—security industry
• ToolPro—CNC driven machine tool shops
Bunker Hill also offers workers compensation, commercial auto, and Texas
Occupational Protection to independent agents in Texas. Texas companies with
exposures in New Mexico, Oklahoma and Arkansas can also access our workers compensation coverage.
The company is actively developing new programs and is working to expand
existing programs into new states. “We project rolling out 2-3 new programs each year,” says Byron Way, president and COO. “We look to our agents for ideas for new programs—preferably with an existing block of business in a specific industry niche.”
“The key to our success,” says Bunker Hill Chief Executive Officer Art Seifert, “is our people. We pride ourselves on having experts in each of our specialty
programs.” This expertise can help agents looking to expand into one or more of Bunker
Hill’s specialty markets. “We believe we are in a unique position to help agents learn the nuances of each
program—how to find, write and keep key accounts by becoming their client’s trusted insurance advisor,” continues Seifert. “We are first and foremost underwriters, but we have an important role to help
our agents grow their business any way we can.”
Bunker Hill Underwriters is a wholly owned subsidiary of Southwest Insurance
Partners, Inc. (SWIP), a Texas holding company formed to make acquisitions and
investments in the insurance industry. Other SWIP entities include Great
Midwest Insurance Company, a property & casualty insurer, rated “A” (Excellent) by A.M. Best Company, and Southwest Risk, a wholesale insurance
broker.
