Key programs administered: medical transportation, retirement and senior care, child care, charter and private schools, health & fitness clubs, tanning salons and spas, pest control, and party planners
Greg Thompson, THOMCO’s chairman and CEO, and former president of the Target Markets Program
Administrators Association (TMPAA), is excited about his firm’s ability to deliver customer service combined with state-of-the-art product
development and risk management in a wide range of program niches. As CEO
Thompson points out, “We see a flight to quality in some of our programs—i.e. producers are getting tired of program markets that hastily grab market
share but cannot offer sustainable value.
“The fact that most of our underwriters have been with the company for years,
even decades in some cases, is a huge advantage. Furthermore, our ability to
adjust product and rates where appropriate allows us to adapt quickly to market
needs. Finally, in larger premium niches like medical transportation and senior
living, our investment in risk management that is value added to the customer
has paid off handsomely.”
In 2009 alone, THOMCO rolled out nine new programs. The company’s goal in 2010 has been to focus on improving both the product offering and ease
of doing business on both new and existing programs. Thus, many of the company’s programs have had product updates scheduled this year, including child care,
independent schools, social service, pest control, and senior living. Programs
where improved automation is having an impact are child care, fitness, spa, and
medi-spa.
“The company’s goal,” relates Thompson, “is not just to offer a range of programs but also to execute well on each one.
With a new program, it may take some time to gain traction, but our goal over
time is to be a major player in all of our niches. Every program is unique and
requires different elements to make it successful. The right mix of
distribution, knowledge, value-added services and ease of doing business is
necessary for success. We do not always get it right on the first try, but it
is a rare case where we are not ultimately successful.”
