The Rough Notes Company
Community Service Award

Honoring those who help others

You must give some time to your fellow men. Even if it’s a little thing, do something for others—something for which you get no pay but the privilege of doing it.

—Dr. Albert Schweitzer

Many insurance agents and agencies feel rich from the privilege of helping others in their community as well as other parts of the globe. Their passions are varied and include raising money for nonprofits, organizing community events to inform others about safety and health issues, and establishing programs to help needy segments of society.

The Rough Notes Company, through its annual Community Service Award, seeks to recognize those who have given time, money and effort to improve the lives of others.

Earlier this year, Rough Notes honored two people for their extraordinary service to others. The first Community Service Award co-winner was Markham F. Rollins III, co-chairman and CEO of Rollins Insurance Agency in Tuckahoe, New York, who has been instrumental in raising more than $500,000 for Bridges to Community and its efforts to build cinderblock houses in Nicaragua. Having been on 12 trips to work on these homes, Mark has recruited volunteers and is now on the Bridges to Community board.

The other co-winner is Mark Williamson, founder and owner of Mark V. Williamson Co. of Little Rock, Arkansas, who has raised substantial amounts of money to fund the Central Arkansas Radiation Therapy Institute (CARTI) and has served on its board since 1989. CARTI is a network of seven radiation therapy centers located throughout Arkansas that cares for patients and their families physically, emotionally, and financially. No patient is turned away if unable to pay for treatment.

Do you know an independent insurance agent or agency that has performed extraordinary service within its local community or around the world? Whether you represent an agent or an agency, a state or national insurance trade association, an insurance company, a charity or other community service organization, you are eligible to nominate that person or firm for the 2008 Rough Notes Community Service Award. Simply complete the Nomination Form on the following page along with the supporting documentation, and submit it on or before December 31, 2007.

The winning charity or community service project will receive $5,000 in the name of the winning agent or agency. The honorable mention recipients’ charities or community service projects will receive $1,500 in the winning agent or agency’s name. In addition, the winners will receive an eagle statue with an engraved plaque recognizing their contributions to the community.

The winner and honorable mention recipients will be honored at an awards dinner in Indianapolis in early 2008 in conjunction with Rough Notes magazine’s 19th annual Marketing Agency of the Year celebration. Also in early 2008, an issue of Rough Notes will feature all of the winning agents and agencies and their special community service projects. *
