International Brokerage and Surplus Lines

When it comes to two particular subject areas, you might want to list the name “C. Janner Holliday IV” in a prominent position within your property and casualty address book or Rolodex.

Those headings are “transportation/trucking insurance programs” and “Target Market Program Administrators Association (TMPAA).”

Janner Holliday, a nationally recognized transportation insurance veteran, who started his career in 1984, is the president of International Brokerage and Surplus Lines (IBSL) of Lakeland, Florida. IBSL manages transportation and trucking insurance programs for motor truck cargo and commercial physical damage, as well as primary truck liability. These categories are offered across the United States as IBSL’s flagship product—the “Truck Owners Package Program.”

Holliday is also an acknowledged expert on the subject of programs, particularly as they apply to the Target Markets Program Administrators Association, of which he has been a member of the board of directors from 2005 into 2007. An enthusiastic backer of the association as it relates to his own company’s business, Holliday says, “We at IBSL are very happy with the relationship we have with the Association. Its membership features the finest group of professionals I have had the pleasure of working with over the length of my career.

“The Association promotes dialogue, communication and education between the three elements of the group: its program administrator base, its group of carrier partners, and the vendors who serve the insurance industry. The TMPAA drives program business through our public awareness ads in industry publications and also across the Internet through e-mail announcements and via the association’s Web site (www.targetmkts.com). Also available on the Internet is the association’s risk placement assistance initiative, Target Programs, through which the TMPAA drives commerce and transactions. No question that our program administrators association continues to grow and improve all the time.

“From the very basic ideas behind ‘program business 101’ to complex reinsurance and risk transfer and assumption models, then to other important matters of the day, the Association offers serious education to its members. I’ve spoken at national TMPAA meetings and was an attentive ‘student’ at other workshops there. In my opinion, the Program Administrators Association’s success stems from the limitless sharing, effort and concern of its members. Through our interaction with TMPAA members, we become better people and better professionals.”

After listening to Janner Holliday’s remarks about the benefits delivered by TMPAA, one is not surprised at the enthusiasm he offers and the expertise he relates in connection with his own program business. IBSL, now in its 15th year of operation, was a founding member of TMPAA. Janner’s father, Clyde J. Holliday III, began his insurance career in 1962. Soon after, he specialized in special risk underwriting and surplus lines. Between father and son, the “Partners Holliday” combine for 68 years of experience specializing in transportation insurance. Among their pioneering ventures, both for their own enterprise and for the insurance companies they represent, are underwriting guidelines, policy form standards, claims practices, and pricing models.

International Brokerage and Surplus Lines’ office has been a paperless operation for the past three years. Because of its heavy involvement in technology, IBSL recently began to offer such technology products as digital risk/Internet liability insurance, data protection insurance, insurance for Internet commerce, technology errors & omissions, and enterprise privacy protection insurance.

While international markets are extremely important, due primarily to IBSL’s transportation and shipping program specialties, the company offers other casualty-related lines, including general liability and property, as well as professional liabilities and technology programs.

Whether primary packages or secondary, nationwide or abroad—clients with inquiries about International Brokerage and Surplus Lines can reach Janner Holliday or his associates at their Lakeland home office (janner@ibsl.com; phone (863) 687-2940, extension 25). In addition to its main office, IBSL also maintains partnership office relationships in Florida, Georgia and Indiana. →
